RAILWAY ACCIDENT ON THE
ZIG-ZAG.
Sydney, Moxdat.
A serious accident happened on the Kg
zap to-day to the tourists' train which
left Glcnbrook at 10 o'clock this morn
ing, being 10 minutes late. When it ar
rived at the top point of the lapstone at
the Zigzag, the rails were found to be very
greasy, owing to a heavy mist The train,
which was composed of nine carriages, be
came unmanageable, although the air ami
hand brakes were applied,, and finally it ran
into the top buffer of the Zigzag. The shock,
wrecked the engine and two carnages, and
injured many of the p&ssenpers. A relief
train was Bent out from Penrith with Dr.
tiwaine, of Penrith, on board, and the passen
gers were transferred into it and brought to
Sydney, arriving here at a quarter to 2 o'clock.
Dr. Woodward met the train at the station,
and attended to the wants of the passengers.
The grade at the point of the road where the
accident happened is a grade of 1ft down
ward to every 33ft. The names of the injnred
passengers are as follow:—
Mr. linn is, Manor-house, Mount Victoria,
shock; Mm. Tunis, injnry to shoulder; Mrs.
Auburn, injury to forehead; J. Meeks, shock
and injury to head; William Beard,
Katooinba, severe shock and injury to side
and back; Mrs. Hughes, scalp wonnd, ei
I>ectorating blood ; Mies Hughes, wound over
the eye and small wound on the eyelid;
Miss Macpherson, Blight injury to hip;
William Cole, a child nine years old, sickly,
injury to head and scalp wound; Mrs. J. B.
llrown, injury to wrist; Kobert Hemming,
bruised cheek near the eye; Mrs. Addison,
injury to forehead; John Martin, sc&p
wound; Mrs. Ashburn, shock and scs-P
wound; J. Bamsley, a lad, bruise on leg
