THE GLENBHOOK WASHAWAY.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE HERALD.
Slr,-On Saturday night last the raliway was
washed away at Glenbrook, consequently the
train which left Eskbank on that day at 4.35
P.m. was detained at Springwood from about
7.30 p.m. until 6.30 a.m. the next- day. Dur-
ing the evening thc passengers were Informed
by the officials that they could obtain accom
miodatlon and meals at the local hotels, but
that they must pay for these themselves. The
train was fairly full, principally of second
class passengers. The majority were women
and children, many of whom could not afford
to pay the ls 6d tor a meal and the 2s for a
bed. The Commlssionerst generously allowed
the gas to be kept on in the train all night,
and surely In addition the least they could
have done was to have provided supper for
the women and little children. As lt was,
they had to sit up all night in carriages,'
many of which were little better than boxes
and In most Instances got nothing to eat un-
til they arrived at their destination next
morning
