THE BRICKWORKS
PETITION TO MINISTER.
Recently, some enterprising per-
son conceived the idea of opening a
brick works at Katoomba North. At
once an agitation was instituted am-
ong local residents, who petitioned
tho Council to declare the environs
of the proposed brick-works a resi-
dential area.
The Council concurred, and took
the initial steps in the desired di-
rection; the outcome being an ad-
vertisement by the Minister, asking
for objectors to lodge their protests,
if any.
On Tuesday night, Katoomba
Council received a communication
from the Local Government Depart-
ment, stating that it had received a
letter from Mr. P. V. Tabrett, on
closing a petition from 125 alleged
ratepayers in the vicinity, protesting
against, the area being gazetted resi-
dential.
Several aldermen scanned the list
of "residents in the locality," and
declared that the majority of them
dwelt afar from the site of the con-
tentious brick-works. They stated
that the petition obviously emanated
from persons quite disinterested in
the question, at least from a resi-
dential aspect.
It was resolved to instruct the
Town Clerk to compile a list of the
objectors, with their addresses, and
any available Information to reveal
how close they lived to the locality
affected.
------------
The "peak" load, on Katoomba's
generating plant, during the past
three weeks, was 740 units, on Feb-
ruary 25.
