Lithgow & Katoomba Bricks
Leave "Much To Be Desired"
Bricks -manufactured in Lithgow and Katoomba, and."
used for lionie-building, have been condemned in a letter
written to Lithgow Council by the Council of the City of
the Blue Mountains. 0
The Blue Mountains Council
which is seeking support for a cam
paign to force manufacturers to pro
duce as better standard of brick, said
that at Katoomba "local builders
liaye found it necessary to condemn
bricks because they were unsatisfac
tory -for building purposes."
Lithgow, will support the B.M.
Local . Government authorities m
pressing for Ministerial approval fdr
establishing standards and specifica
tions for bricks.' - 1
In the letter, B.M. Council .
said bricks manufactured at i
Lithgow and Katoomba' -left
much to be desired, but, unfor
tunately, tlioro were no specifi- :
cations which Iiad to be adhered :
to in N.S. Wales.

being.. made to. the L.G. Department
to, .draw up. specifications and
quality standards, for bricks... It -had
also suggested that the Katoomba
brickyard, engage the' services, of an
experienced brickmalcer and' profit by
his . advice, . arid thus - bring home-
building bricks up to a better quality.
