; SCHOOL OF ARTS.
FOUNDATION STONE LAID
Notwithstanding the wild and boist
erous weather experienced on Saturday
afternoon Inst, there was a large and
representatative gathering .on the ;site of
the new ' School of Arts building at
Glenbrook, the occasion being the lay-
ing of the Foundation Stone of the
new building, and the resetting of

.Tho President' (Mr tW. H; Williams))
in his opening.address, referred, to.the
great: loss and inconvenience the res-
idents had been put- to . through the
destruction of the old building, but ,
he;felt sure they would appreciate the '
efforts of,'the committee to give.them..
somothing better in the new promises
which were; to be of brick. The
contractor, Mr James Dunn, was
making good headway, with the struc
ture which would cost approximately
£1700, towards- which £315 had already
been subscribed by local pepple, plus
amount of insurnnce on the old build-
ing, £950_ paid in full by the In-'
suranco Co.., making a grand total fn
hand of £1265. The. furniture, out-
buildings, fencing, etc., would cost
about £300, leaving in all, a shortage
of £700 but he had no doubt this
amount would be'considerably reduced
as the orection of the building pro-
peeded. Although it was some .time since
the old building was demolished, ' the
delay' was, unavoidable owing to the
difficulty "in securing a new _site. How-
over, no. time-was lost when, the area ,
'was pegged out.
Tho building, which :'is, to be an
attractive one, was designed by.' Mr
H. G. .Kirkpatrick architect of Syd'

an appeal "for donations., with, the re-
sult that. the. funds benefitted-by an
appreciable amount.

"to lay tho foundation stone of .the
new' building, presenting her with a
silver. trowel,. suitably inscribed, as, a
memeto of the occasion.
The stone was declared to ' be well
andl 'truly laid.' Mr'Williams was
then presented with a silver trowel, als
suitably inscribed. to relay the founda=
tion stone of the old building, which
she declared to be well and truly' re-
