Mr Cullam happened to be mentioned in the

Line 1.4.0"Advance notice" of the company to have reported on:
Line 1.4.1an area of land at aulconbridge which it is int-
Line 1.4.2tended the company shall control: he was also men-
Line 1.4.3tioned to be a timber expert which has evidently caused

his dipleasure and I here with tender my apology as I

now recognise my mistake since the facts have been revealed.

Apparently it has been Mr Cullam's desire to expose

what he considers to be a gigantic fraud but I sub-

Line 2.1.0mit that Mr Cullam should give me permission lo
Line 2.1.1publish hiss report Then the public will not only leam
Line 2.1.2the facts, but yyill realise how much confidence may be
Line 2.1.3placed in Mr Cullam As regards the report, I take
Line 2.1.4the liberty to mention a portion of it, in order to
Line 2.1.5relieve the charge Mr Cullam's statement as regards
Line 2.1.6the quantity of timber contained on our Faulconbridge
Line 2.1.7propertj of 512 acres is as follows -"I estimate the
Line 2.1.8quantity of timber on the area of land pointed out to
Line 2.1.9nie as the field of the proposed operations to be within

Line 2.2.0three or four million feet " Will he say, instead of
Line 2.2.1"area of land pointed out to me," that it was the 512i
Line 2.2.2acres. Aa matter of fact, he only inspected a very
Line 2.2.3small portion of the area, and the time did not extend
Line 2.2.4beyond two hours. On the same ratio, should he
Line 2.2.5have insected the whole area he would probably have
Line 2.2.6arrived at a figure above -40 000,000 super feet. How
Line 2.2.7ever, It just proves how modest Is our estlmate-espe-
Line 2.2.8cally as the area now is instead of 512 acres, 1500
Line 2.2.9acres, whlch would posslhly have been noticed by Mr
Line 2.2.10Cullami had his annoyance not temporarily removed his
Line 2.2.11eyesight Another fact worthy of note is that Mr
Line 2.2.12Cullam states that there is ' blarkbean" in the variety
Line 2.2.13cf fancy wood but there Is not a stick of "blackbean"
Line 2.2.14cn the property

Line 2.3.0The estímate was arrive at with the assistance of a
Line 2.3.1report made hy John & Allan Esq , who made an ex
Line 2.3.2lhaustive examination, covering a period of two days,
Line 2.3.3against expert Cullam's two hours This estimate was
Line 2.3.4made on the original area of 512 acres, which has been

Line 2.5.0However, Mr Ctillim is not the only one antagon-
Line 2.5.1istic to Ihis, compiny, as there are several interested
Line 2.5.2in the limber trade who recognise that the success of
Line 2.5.3thils company will considerably interfere with their
Line 2.5.4present exorbitant charrges-hence their bitterness.
Line 2.5.5Directly the company- is in full swing hardwood will be
Line 2.5.6supplied at 9s 6d per hundred super feet, as against
Line 2.5.719s 6d per hundred as at present charged

Line 2.6.0I consider now that the statement Is fully justified,
Line 2.6.1and I may statet, that the "Herald's ' reporter also ex
Line 2.6.2pressed himself as satisfied however, should Mr Cul-
Line 2.6.3lam desire to prolong this controversy, I am quite
Line 2.6.4wlling, but 1 hve no desire to waste your yaluable
Line 2.6.5spice. 1 may state that the reason his report was
Line 2.6.6mentioned was because of the extremes.

I sincerely trust that Mr Cullam's service may be

noticed by theRoyal Humane Society, and obtain its

due reward.

Line 2.9.2then to say In effect that he is no expert at
