During a heavy rainstorm a washaway
occurred on the railway near Glenbrook.
Ten chains o£ the permanent way' were
damaged.
The driver of a goods train from Penrith
was warned of the washaway, which was
near the entrance to the tunnel. Large trees
were bent and water rushed down the gullies
in large volumes. At Penrith lumps of ice
fell and heavy rain flooded the streets.
Nearly 6in of rain fell at St. Marys, and
the railway line was 2ft under water.
