Katoomba Railway Station 1882

This is the earlier timber platform of 1881 that was replaced with a masonry one in 1891. The gatekeeper's rural gothic sandstone cottage is the standard design approved by Engineer-in-Chief John Whitton in 1867, this one bacame the stationmaster's residence in 1881 and was demolished in 1891 to make way for the new platform. Some other gatehouses survived as private residences at Lapstone (ruin), Valley Heights, Springwood, Lawson (rebuilt), Medlow Bath and Mt Victoria.

Philiip Hammon advises that the trucks on the right contain oil shale from the Katoomba mines.
