DIE WHEN BOMBER
CRASHES AT GLENBROOK

Engine Lands On Footpath;
Portion of Wing Falls Off
SYDNEY, Wednesday.
Five members of the Royal Australian Air Force were
killed when a bomber crashed at Glenbrook, 42 miles from
Sydney, about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
The victims were: !
SQUADRON-LEADER JAMES M.
RAINBOW (42), single, of Double
Bay, Sydney, senior medical officer
at the air navigation school at
Parkes.
FLYING-OFFICER HENRY THEO
DORE SKILLMAN (30), married,
of Parkes.
PILOT-OFFICER JOHN IGNATIUS
NEWMAN (25), single, formerly ot
Sydney and Toowoomba, Queens
land.
PILOT-OFFICER BAILEY MIDDLE
BROOK SAWYER (34), married, ot
Parkes.
AIRCRAFTSMAN CHARLES RICH
ARD TYSOE (23), single, of Gee
long, Victoria.
All were members of the staff of the
air navigation school at Parkes.
Witness said that the aircraft
had begun to break up in the air
before the crash.
The machine was conveying Pilots
Officer Sawyer to Sydney for urgent
medical attention.
Pilot-Officer Newman was pilot ot
the plane. Flying-Officer Skillman
was navigator, and Aircraftsman
Tysoe was wireless operator.
Portion of Wing in Bush,
Police Told
Some residents told the police that
portion of one wing fell off in the
bush a few miles from Glenbrook.
Small portions of the' plane fell on
the property of D. Jones, half a mile
from Glenbrook Railway Station.
One of the engines fell out of
the plane at a height of less than
| 200ft. and crashed to the concrete i
footpath in Lurasvillc road.

| It then ricocheted across the road,
striking an electric light pole, which
was smashed.
j ' The bodies of the victims lay some
'distance from the wreckage.
Shortly after the crash, the plane
burst into flames.

igested that one of the tanks had been
leaking for some distance before <
plane crashed.
