AIR ACCIDENTS
Personal Factor Main
Cause
MELBOURNE, Wednesday.
The Minister for Air (Mr. Mc-
Ewen) stated to-day that of the
last nine air accidents investigated
it had been established beyond ques
tion that in eight cases, personal
misjudgment on the part of the
crews had been the cause.
Circumstances of the remaining air
accident had rendered it impossible
to reach any specific conclusion.
Mr. McEwen said that the invest-
igation of yesterday's crash at Glen-
brook, when five R.A.A.F. men
were killed, had started and there
would be two independent inquires.
SEARCHING INQUIRY
ADVOCATED
A searching inquiry into the system
of training in the R.A.AF. and the
air-worthiness of aircraft was urged
yesterday by the Deputy Leader of the
Labour Party (Mr. Forde), comment-
ing on the fatal crash of an R.AA.F.
plane with the loss of five lives, at
Glenbrook, on Tuesday.
Mr. Forde also suggested an inquiry
into whether instructors were being
overworked. Every endeavour should
be made to eliminate accidents which
had been all too frequent in the last
l8 months.
