What was termed aa "impromptu race
meeting" was held at Mount Morgan on
Saturday afternoon last, under the auspices of
the Mount Morgan Racing Club. It proved
one of the most enjoyable gatherings ever held
on that courso. The attendance numbered
about 400 persons, who all took keen interest
in the fun. Mr. L. H. Lynch made a very
attentive secretary, and thc starter was suc-
cessful in getting the horses away on even
terms. The other officials performed their
duties to the satisfaction of all. The utmost
order was observed, and naught occurred to
in any way mar the pleasure of the after-
noon's sport. Tho club hod a totallsator on
the ground, which did a fair business, be-
tween £80 and £90 being invested during the
day. After paying all expenses it is expected
there will be a surplus of about £5, which ia
a Very satisfactory termination to the affair.
Mr. Jerry Butler had a refreshment booth on
the ground, and did such a good business
that he was quite cleaned out, ' not even a
drop of syrup being left.
With reference to the match between Bessy
and Pugent, the ownet of the latter not
being satisfied, another race, under similar
conditions, is to take place on Saturday next.

Sepoy (7st. 131b.) also started, and Gipsy
Boy (Sst. 41b.) was scratched. The field ran
in pretty close order for balf-a-mile, when
Chloride and Radical weut to the front, and
raced together for some distance. Nearing
home Radical drew away and won by tn o
lengths. Time, 1 min. .r>5 sec.

going lialf-a-mile Chlorido took the lead, and
kept in front till a hundred yarda from home,
when Melodist dashed to tho front and won
by about a length. Time, 1 min. 33 sec.
